You probably took advantage of the Early Bird discount and got your registration in place for SABR 39. Now is the time to order your optional events.

SABR has 1,000 tickets to the Red Sox – Orioles game at Camden Yards – you can order tickets in one of three areas depending on your preference and budget. We also have bus transportation arranged for you to and from the convention hotel, the JW Marriott Pennsylvania Avenue.

We have three special ballpark tours arranged with the Nationals on Wednesday, July 29. There is a limit of 30 persons per tour, so reserve your spot soon.

The SABR Awards Luncheon with Stan Kasten on Saturday afternoon, August 1 is also ready for your purchase. Entrée choices are a Chicken Marsala or a Pan-seared Tilapia.

There are two trips to see minor league baseball; a Saturday evening trip to Potomac and a Sunday afternoon jaunt to Southern Maryland.

You will learn more about many of these optional events in the coming weeks at this site, but you can place your orders today. Just  go to the SABR 39 Events listing at the SABR Store.

Hope to see you in DC!

SABR has secured a discount from the Washington Nationals for tickets at games before and after the convention! If you're arriving early or leaving late, take advantage of these discounted rates to see a Nationals game. The discount code is "SABR" and applies to all Nationals games between July 16th and August 9th, which includes games against the Cubs, Mets, and Padres before the convention, and against the Marlins and Diamondbacks after.

If you're not arriving early or staying late, you can still see the Nationals play - the Potomac Nationals! In addition to the official trip to Camden Yards on Friday night, there will be an outing to the Nationals' Advanced A affiliate's game on Saturday night, August 1. More details on the outing will be available soon.

Click "Read More" to see a list of the discounts available, or go to www.nationals.com to purchase tickets with the discount code.

Teams near the Convention

Did you know that, within two-and-a-half hours' driving time from Washington, D.C., site of SABR 39, there are:

  • Three major-league baseball teams -- including the defending World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies?
  • A dozen affiliated and independent minor league teams?
  • Not one, not two, but three collegiate wood-bat leagues, each of which will be playing their championship series while SABR 39 is in D.C.?

It's all true. Members of the SABR 39 planning committee have already pulled the schedules of the teams, including games before and after the convention if you want to put together your own baseball road trip. In the coming weeks, we'll issue the teams' scheduling information along with driving directions from the J.W. Marriott Hotel, home of SABR 39.

UPDATE: The Schedule of area games is now available as a PDF.

Quick Facts

SABR 40 will be the first convention SABR has held in Atlanta - in fact no past convention has been within 400 miles (Louisville in 1997 was the closest).

This makes Atlanta one of only four current MLB markets never to host a SABR convention - but not for long!
