Stay at the JW and Be Entered Into a Drawing
Written by John Zajc, SABR staff
Wednesday, 13 May 2009 13:50

For everyone who reserves at least 1 room for one night at the JW Marriott Hotel, SABR is offering one chance at a random drawing for one free hotel night.

SABR staff will review the reservation list provided by the hotel on Thursday night and conduct a random drawing. The winner will be posted on the convention bulletin board and the hotel will be told to put one night of the winner’s hotel stay on the SABR Master account.

To make your hotel reservation, see: http://convention.sabr.org/index.php/plan-your-trip/hotel.

If you're coming to the convention and the official Baltimore Orioles, Potomac Nationals, and Southern Maryland Blue Crabs games aren't enough for you, or if you'd like to spend some time in the area before and after the Convention, you can now view an excellent schedule of ballgames in the area in the weeks surrounding the convention!

Where to eat at the convention

Looking for quick and cheap eats while in D.C. for SABR-39? You don’t have to go far. In fact, you don’t even have to walk out of doors if you don’t want to.

“Eat @ National Place” is a food court chock full of fare of all kinds. How does this lineup sound?

  • A Slice of Italy Pizzeria
  • Amazon Café
  • Five Guys Burgers and Fries (a fave of mine)
  • Kabuki Sushi
  • Meiwah Express (another personal favorite)
  • Moe’s Southwestern Grill
  • Naan & Beyond (for you “Slumdog Millioniaire” fans)
  • Quiznos
  • Grill Kabob

You can pick out the lineup and choose your own cleanup hitter.

Also adjoining Eat @ National Place, but not officially considered part of it, are

  • Danbine
  • Soho Café & Market
  • Corner Bakery
  • PJ’s Sandwich Deli
  • Fuel Energy Café

Eat @ National Place is connected to the J.W. Marriott Hotel, the official hotel of SABR 39, by escalators, walkways and elevators, but it is not nearly as labyrinthine an exercise as it was at SABR 38 last year in Cleveland.

And Eat @ National Place has its own Frequent Eaters plan. As for a “Frequent Eater” card and ask them to stamp it. A dozen stampings and you get a free entrée up to $6.50 in value.

Oh, and Eat @ National Place is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you choose, you can actually go outside the hotel and enter the food court from F Street NW.

And if none of this floats your boat, F Street, right across the street from Eat @ National Place, has several restaurants to fit all manner of palates, including an organic eatery.

Bon appetit!
