Stadium Construction and Fan Attendance for Minor League Baseball

The spate of major league stadium construction in the last two decades has had a mixed effect on attendance, with momentary influxes often reverting to, or near, pre-existing levels. Much less research has been carried out on the effects of new ballparks at the minor league level. Gitter and Rhoads examine a dataset that is much more varied, and much larger, than MLB’s, applying economic modeling methodology to draw their conclusions.

Seth Gitter (srgitter@gmail.com) is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Towson University. He received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin and his BA in Economics from Grinnell College. His main research focuses on the relationship between coffee farming and education in Central America. His baseball research focuses on minor league attendance. Thomas Rhoads is an Associate Professor of Economics at Towson.
