There have been no systematic efforts to use available statistical data to evaluate and rank managers beyond their teams’ accomplishments over the course of a single season or the manager’s career. The most popular, albeit flawed, methods use cumulative benchmark accomplishments for teams and measuring a manager’s record according to how many wins his team should have had—expected wins—based on actual runs scored and runs allowed. Instead of bottom-line seasonal wins and losses, Soderholm-Difatte selects seven indicators of impact for analysis. He also uses several case studies that compare the two current approaches to managerial evaluation with his new one. Download Powerpoint • Download Audio
